#lir2018 Thank You

October 21, 2018 By Learn It

#lir2018 – Dyslexia Awareness Campaign 2018 – A huge success and thank you to the many buildings and structures that turned red in Perth last weekend. (13 & 14th October, 2018). Whilst we didn’t get to visit Curtin University, we thank you for getting involved.

Saturday Night was a visit to Mandurah to enjoy a lovely meal at Murphy’s Pub with families SOR.  After a calm and somewhat comfortable experience, we braved the weather and took a stroll onto the foreshore to visit  both the old and new Mandurah Bridges, all of which looked gorgeous glowing in red.  It was to great to catch up with families new and old and see the enjoyment of the kids, being with kids like themselves, not to mention the effort that went into wearing red by the kids and adults!

Sunday night, whilst tired after the shaningans of Saturday, took us to the City at 6.30 in the evening.  A “sea of red” created on the 5.44 from Mandurah in Carriage 1, was a sight to be seen.

After meeting up with our NOR families and on our way to meeting our resident Documentary Reporter Danielle, we travelled just 3 stations to the newly named Optus Stadium, excited to witness the stadium basking in the glow of “dyslexia red”, upon arrival, it was all dark, but whilst we stood under the snake light walk to the excitment and joy of everyone, the lights turned on and the kids were amazed and thrilled to have been there when they became red.  Thank you so much Optus Stadium, you made our day 🙂

After our excitement at the Optus Stadium, via the amazing park, which involved a good 20-30 min play in, we took the opportunity to take a walk over Matagarup Bridge.  And isn’t that a sight to behold! After the well publicised difficulties, and having never visited, it was an unknown entity, but wow, it was worth the wait, the colour red via hundreds of lights, the arches and bows, its location and with the Optus Stadium as a backdrop, it was sure worth the wander, over the bridge the kids ran, laughing and exploring ,enjoying themselves, explaining to everyone, even the Security Guards why they were there, telling them all about Dyslexia Awareness and the reason they were there and that, they, were the reason the bridge was red.  Next year’s necessity is a drone (with license) to ensure we truely capture the magic created by Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium.

And finally, after a big weekend of celebration and excitment for the kids in raising awarenss for Dyslexia, we took the train back and visited The Bell Tower, long time supporters of our awareness campaign, they have been on board since 2015, when we first started this event and have never let us down.  The delicate, spire pointing upwards was a great finale to our weekend. Thank you Perth Bell Tower, without your ongoing support, our campaign would not be as signficant.

With a tired, but happy group of kids from 14months – 18yrs, we got back onto the train and headed home, still with enough energy to pose for some pics, back to another week’s struggle at school.

Thanks you LLLC Families and for all those who have shown support for our kids.  Together, we will make a future for our kids.  Thank You. #inspireaspirebelievesucceed
